Usefulness to God

Watchman Nee wrote, “The measure of our usefulness to God will be found in the measure of His life that is in us. As the measure of God increases in us, so our usefulness to Him also increases.” This is what Paul meant when he said, “we have this treasure in earthen vessels” (2 Corinthians 4:7) and then later reminded Timothy that to be fully useful to the master we must purge ourselves from uncleanliness so that we may be vessels of honor (2 Timothy 2:20-21).

The measure of His life in us directly correlates to the measure of how much of our life we have crucified. The concern is not getting more of Him, because how can one get more of that which consumes? The issue is maintaining less of us so that His completion may show forth from our lives in full glory and power.

QUESTION: How can we effectively crucify the self-life?

  1. That's a tough question! I'm not positive how much feedback you were wanting from the question but I'll give you mine!

This is something I've been struggling with lately. I think you have given us the answer how to rid ourselves of these selfish desires though when you referenced purging ourselves from uncleanliness. I am amazed at how many secular songs and TV shows I can quote nearly word for word. The same can not be said for me about scripture, so that's something I've been working on. Instead of listening to secular radio in the car I'll play a Christian CD. Instead of winding down my day with my favorite TV shows I read my devotion and the Bible. It's a lot like a diet, every personal trainer will tell you you won't get anything out of your workouts unless you are putting good quality foods into your body it is my personal belief that the same can be said for our walks with God. That's my two cents on it Pastor!

Thank you (as always) for the Word you've passed on, and the change it has inspired

Sorry for writing such a book of a response!
