A Vast Promise

Psalm 13:8 is a rehearsal of all of the marvelous and wondrous acts of provision the Father bestows upon us. David triumphantly notes that “on the day I called, You answered” (v. 3). He adds in this same verse “You made me bold with strength in my soul.” He speaks of the kings of the earth expressing their thanks for Divine oversight and how in His magnificent glory, Yahweh also remembers the lowly (v. 4-6).
Continuing, the Psalmist rejoices in the personal care afforded him by God as he cites God’s promise to “revive” him when he finds himself in trouble and to rise to his defense when the enemy came against him (v. 7).

All of this rehearsing of God’s greatness, care, and provision led David to exclaim, “The Lord will accomplish what concerns me…” (Psalm 138:8). What an amazing and powerful promise! Can we possibly fathom the vastness and richness of this great Word! He will accomplish what concerns me!

How wide open is this great promise? I am concerned with my family, my children, my future, my parents, and my friends. He will accomplish and watch over them. I am concerned with the church, the ministry, my own spiritual growth, maturity, and integrity. He will accomplish them as well. I am concerned about the world, the economy, the situations and circumstances of societal failure and breakdown. He again has it all under control.

The God who answers when I call, raises up and sets down the kings of the earth, befriends the lonely, revives me in my weakness, and defends me from my enemy, has promised to accomplish that which concerns me. How amazing is His love and how vast is His promise!
