It seems that at least subconsciously we place more credence in the awfulness of our human failure than in the magnitude and glory of His Divine grace.
We often observe individuals that seem so far from God and assume, though rarely do we speak it, that they may be beyond God’s power to save. We do this very thing in our own lives when we reckon that certain weaknesses, habits, leanings, or temperaments will go untouched or unchanged until His return. The problem is that we have more confidence in our continued weakness than His amazing strength.
The writer of Hebrews said that He is able to save to the uttermost those who come to Him and Paul said that God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we could ever ask or think. There is no sinner beyond His reach, and there is no aspect of our character, no habit or weakness, no secret or complex issue of our nature, that He cannot touch, heal, shape, and transform.
