That Your Joy May Be Full

Jesus said to His disciples, “Ask and you will receive, so that your joy may be full” (John 16:24). He also said that He came to bring “life and that more abundantly” (John 10:10). While we must avoid the folly that sees God as a divine Santa Claus, we must also not forget that He is a loving Heavenly Father who knows, even better than earthly fathers, how to give good gifts to His children. When teaching His disciples about trusting God for the “things” a life, He told them to “consider the lilies” and how they make no provision for themselves yet God cares for them. But, in considering the lilies, let us not forget their extravagant beauty, and clearly unique design.

In caring for them, God did not make them like all the other flowers and clothe them only with what they needed to get by. He arrayed them with striking beauty and a special fragrance that set them apart. That same Heavenly Father has made us uniquely, clothed us with not just enough to get by, but commits to the promise of making our joy full!
