The Peace of Christ

Within the heart of all of humanity there is a raging battle. A battle between fear and faith; hope and despair; good and evil. The prophet Jeremiah said the heart of man is “desperately wicked” (Jeremiah 17:9) but for the child of God, that heart is now inhabited by the Holy Spirit and yet the struggle, if we are honest, continues.

Paul’s words are profound “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts” (Colossians 3:15). To “rule” means to be the arbitrator or umpire. He admonishes Christians to let peace, the peace of Christ, have the final say in their ongoing heart struggles.

How do we LET PEACE RULE? First by staying filled with the Spirit-peace is a fruit of the Spirit. Secondly, by filling our minds with the Word and thinking on that which is lovely, pure, honest, and virtuous. Then “the peace of God which passes all understanding will guard our hearts and minds” (Philippians 4:7-9). Finally we must cultivate our relationship with Christ in an intimate manner that includes daily personal worship for He will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is “stayed upon” Him, who is OUR PEACE and the PRINCE OF PEACE (Isaiah 26:3).

Daily infilling of His Holy Spirit, meditating on His Word, and intimate worship in His presence will allow His peace to rule your heart.
