In Psalm 62 David says that both power and lovingkindness belong to the Lord; certainly an interesting combination. For centuries powerful leaders have used their power to dominate, mete out cruel treatment, and appease their own appetites. Not so with God. Power belongs to Him but He uses His power to further demonstrate His lovingkindness. He did so in sending Jesus.
The promise of Jesus is that we will receive power when the Holy Spirit’s fullness is exercised. That power should not stimulate a sense of importance, arrogance, or desire to control. Instead if we are like Christ, it will stir us to greater acts of service, kinder words, and deeper expressions of His lovingkindness.
