Zechariah the prophet was instructed not to despise the day of small things! That which began in the tiniest and most unimpressive fashion, would when fully formed and matured, make great and lasting impact.
The spring time affords us an illustrative view of that same principle. The slightly elevated temperatures of the spring give way to the blistering heat, miniscule buds yield beautiful blossoms, freshly planted fields and gardens give way to bountiful crops and fresh produce, and the pitiful but hopeful chirp of a single robin soon is overcome by the powerful song of a sky full of birds in harmonious chorus.
Do not despise the day of small beginnings.
How true it is of our spiritual lives as well. A tiny spiritual break-through results in a powerful victory, a discipline committed to; yields a habit of spiritual depth and holiness, and a single seemingly meaningless gift like that of the lad’s lunch, can be used by God to bless more than our fondest imagination could fathom. Most importantly, our lame efforts to reflect the character of our glorious redeemer and savior, as impotent as they may seem, will someday be transformed, as we see Him in all of his splendor and majesty and in the twinkling of an eye we are made like him.
Do not despise the day of small things!
