Enlightened Eyes

The Apostle Paul prayed for the Ephesian believers to have a spirit of wisdom and revelation that, “the eyes of their heart would be enlightened.” He was praying quite simply for discernment. There are multiple places in which discernment is desperately needed today, but at least three stand out as critical to our day, and the times in which we live.

We need to discern the working of the enemy in our world and in our personal lives. Foolishly so many yield strongholds and parts of their heart to the one who comes only to steal, kill, and destroy. He has blinded the hearts of many and we need the eyes of our heart enlightened.

We need to discern when God is saying “no.” Balaam could not see the angel of the Lord standing in the way but the donkey upon which he rode saw the angel clearly. How many tragic failures would be avoided if our eyes were open to all that God was bidding us to walk away from or opportunities that though attractive to the flesh, might bring destructive results.

And we, like the servant Elisha, need our eyes opened to see the great heavenly hosts that are with us and fighting on our behalf. May our eyes be opened to see the cunning craftiness of our enemy, to heed the warning posture of our Lord when we are tempted to go astray, and to rejoice in the assurance that if: God is for us, none can stand against us!
