Disciplined to be Holy

To say that God is holy is to say that He is set apart, separate, and completely other from all that is impure, sinful and human. We are called upon to be holy as well, in fact warned that without holiness, we will not see the Lord.

For us to be holy it means that we too are set apart, separate and made other to the things of the flesh and the things of this world. But for us to become holy, Divine involvement is necessary. According to the writer of Hebrews, God disciplines us so that we might share in His holiness. Discipline, in the moment is painful. It hurts, it weighs on us, and it at times batters us to the point of exhaustion, weariness, and even desperation. But discipline leads us to let go of things, attitudes, people and even dreams that are not beneficial to our spiritual pursuit. Sometimes we let go reluctantly, stubbornly, and the discipline intensifies. But finally, as we allow the loving discipline of the Father to do its work, we find ourselves pried away from the things of the flesh and separated to Him.

Do not despise His chastening, for it is His way of allowing you to share in His holy nature.
